In conversation with HE Paul Shipokosa Mashatile, Deputy President, Republic of South Africa.
The government of South Africa has rooted its foreign policy in human rights, the primacy of national sovereignty, peace and stability, and economic diplomacy. In building relationships to facilitate trade and investment, the government has pursued a policy of non-alignment on global politics and for the reform of multilateral institutions. These principles have underpinned South Africa’s national interest but have also necessitated greater engagement in international fora to advocate for a third way in a polarizing world.
In August this year, South Africa hosted the 15th BRICS summit and championed its expanding membership, and later this year it will host the African Growth and Opportunity Act conference, a European Union-South Africa Summit, and the UK-South Africa Bilateral Forum. In 2025 South Africa will assume the presidency of the G20 group of nations, which will mark the first time the meetings will be hosted in Africa.
At this meeting, His Excellency Deputy President Paul Shipokosa Mashatile will present South Africa’s foreign policy position and its vision for global change.
