Germany, Italy and France join airspace ban on Russian aircraft

Growing list of countries announce airspace closures in protest at Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine

Germany and Italy have become the latest European countries to ban Russia’s aircraft from their airspace, forcing the country’s passenger planes to take increasingly circuitous routes to their destinations.

The Italian prime minister’s office said on Sunday it had decided to close its airspace to Russian aircraft, while the German transport ministry said a similar ban would be in place for three months.
